TX4740 & TX4741 Slip Ring Units Available With Inclusive Junction Boxes

4/11/2019

Picture
Trolex Engineering have recently obtained an ATEX and IECEx supplementary certificate to the TX4740/TX4741 range of slip rings to include increased safety junction boxes on rotor-side, stator-side or both sides of the slip ring unit, to allow direct connection into terminals rather than flying leads.

The slip ring unit combined with these junction boxes, certified for use in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +45°C, allows a throughput voltage and current of 1kV and 200 Amps respectively.  As with the TX4740/TX4741, the slip ring can be combined with fibre optic rotary joints and hydraulic swivels, as required.

In 2020, the TX4740 series of Slip Ring Units celebrates its 30th Anniversary in operation so is a field-proven product, suitable for winch and ROV applications.

Trolex Engineering have recently expanded the TX4700 Series of products to allow the TX4705 and TX4707 to be used directly with the TX3700/3701 Exd Connectors.

The slip rings are certified for use in ATEX and IECEx hazardous areas with an ambient temperature of -20°C to +55°C, allowing direct connection using plug-and-play technology.

Picture
Fitted with the connectors, the TX4705 has a maximum current throughput of 100 Amps, allowing up to 20 Amps/ring.  The TX4707 has a maximum current throughput of 16 Amps, fitted with 2 x 8 Amp Rings.  The voltage of the units is governed by the certification of the connectors. If fitted with TX3700 Connectors the voltage is limited to 240Vac/300Vdc, or fitted with TX3701 Connectors, the voltage is limited to 1500Vac/2000Vdc.

Trolex Engineering have been designing and manufacturing both explosion protected and weather protected slip rings for over 40 years.  From small, low power slip ring units, through to large, high power slip rings; tried and tested in a range of arduous environments, offering both standard and bespoke products to suit any application.

Trolex Engineering have recently introduced the TX4782 Electrical Slip Ring Unit to their range, certified for use in IECEx hazardous areas, to IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-1 and IEC 60079-7 standards, for use in FPSO applications.

The electrical slip ring has a throughbore of 760mm, allowing the passage of hydraulics, pneumatics or product pipes, with a height of 2.1m.  Rated up to 500Vac with a maximum throughput current of 2010 Amps, it allows the transmission of both power and signals. The slip ring has been certified for use in an ambient temperature of -20°C to +45°C and is manufactured from 316L Stainless Steel.

The slip ring is fitted with junction boxes for connection from both the rotor and stator, allowing easy installation on-site, without the weight of heavy cables.  In addition, all maintenance can be done via removal of covers fitted to the unit to access the internal elements.

Trolex Engineering have been designing and manufacturing both explosion protected and weather protected slip rings for over 40 years.  From small, low power slip rings, through to large, high power slip rings; tried and tested in a range of arduous environments.  They offer both standard and bespoke products to suit any application.

Trolex Engineering have recently launched a Manually-Operated Cable Reel as part of their TX4920 Cable Reel Series.

The Cable Reel, which can be fitted with either a Weather Protected TX4845, or an Explosion Protected TX4705 Slip Ring, is suitable for temperature limits of -20°C to +45°C.   With a ring current of 20 Amps and maximum voltage of 600V, the cable reel is suitable for a maximum speed of 100rpm with an IP65 rated enclosure.

The length of the cable/hose can be adjusted to suit the specification and the external material can be made in a choice of aluminium, 316 stainless steel or carbon steel with epoxy paint system.

Other options include a fluid/gas swivel, cable guide, bump stop, protective covers, special paint systems or colours and a higher current.

TX4707 Compact Slip Ring Added to Range

10/4/2015

Trolex Engineering has added the TX4707 Slip Ring Unit to their range. This new Slip Ring is ideal in applications where space is limited, as the complete unit is only 95mm long and 160mm diameter.

The TX4707 is rated up to 2000V, with a maximum throughput of 16 Amps, and is approved for Explosion Protected Group IIB Zone 1 environments. Suitable for use in conditions with an ambient temperature of -40°C to +60°C, the unit is manufactured in aluminium and then painted to offshore specification. The new Slip Ring will be displayed on our Stand, W34, at Ocean Business 2015 in Southampton, UK, from 14th – 16th April 2015, where our technical team will be able to answer any queries you may have.

Chris Rogers, Director at Trolex Engineering, said: “We cooperate with our customers to overcome their challenges, offering bespoke solutions as required, and the release of the TX4707 is a great example of this. Following a request for a compact unit for use in a wireline application, we were able to design and certify the unit in a short period of time to suit the customer’s specification.”

Trolex Engineering have over 35 years experience in the design and manufacture of Electrical Slip Ring Units for use in ROV, crane, FPSO turret and winch applications. They pioneered the first flameproof electrical slip ring unit for use on pedestal cranes in oil and gas exploration and these products have become a proven method of transferring power and signals across a rotational interface.
