![]() Drawn and produced in early-1978 by Steve Rogers and Jim Parkinson, our first slip ring was a 100/9. This pioneered Flameproof Electrical Slip Rings for pedestal cranes and was for our customer, National Supply. As the name suggests, the unit contained 9 rings, rated at 660V max, 100 Amps max. It received its Baseefa Certificate of Assurance No. Ex 79032 and Ex 78251 in September 1978, and complied with the requirements of BS 5501: Part 5: 1977 (EN 50.018) in respect of Group IIB and Temperature Class T6. This Slip Ring was drawn, manufactured, assembled, certified and delivered by Steve and Jim, and this hands-on knowledge is an important part of our heritage. This unit was returned to us in 2012 for refurbishment, whilst the crane was on shutdown, and is back in service today!

Our history began in 1975 in a shed less than 5 miles from our current location, where our company, originally Engineering Design Services, designed and produced a staircase and fittings for the house of Mr. Johnson, working with our customer Booker Fitzgerald. Obviously, this isn’t the product which we produce today; the first Slip Ring we developed was for use on a children’s ride and was designed and manufactured by the founder, Jim Parkinson.
In 1976, Engineering Design Services were introduced to Trolex Ltd. Initially drawing flameproof enclosures, before quickly expanding into manufacturing, this relationship developed and later saw us adopt their name, becoming Trolex Engineering. During 1977, with our knowledge of flameproof equipment established, Steve Rogers joined the company and we made our venture into oil and gas exploration; pioneering the design, manufacture, assembly, certification and delivery of the first flameproof electrical Slip Ring for use on a pedestal crane, for our customer National Supply. This Slip Ring was returned to us for refurbishment in 2014 and is still in service and fully operational today! |
