Our history began in 1975 in a shed less than 5 miles from our current location, where our company, originally Engineering Design Services, designed and produced a staircase and fittings for the house of Mr. Johnson, working with our customer Booker Fitzgerald. Obviously, this isn’t the product which we produce today; the first Slip Ring we developed was for use on a children’s ride and was designed and manufactured by the founder, Jim Parkinson.
In 1976, Engineering Design Services were introduced to Trolex Ltd. Initially drawing flameproof enclosures, before quickly expanding into manufacturing, this relationship developed and later saw us adopt their name, becoming Trolex Engineering. During 1977, with our knowledge of flameproof equipment established, Steve Rogers joined the company and we made our venture into oil and gas exploration; pioneering the design, manufacture, assembly, certification and delivery of the first flameproof electrical Slip Ring for use on a pedestal crane, for our customer National Supply. This Slip Ring was returned to us for refurbishment in 2014 and is still in service and fully operational today!

This month marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of Trolex Engineering. We have grown to become a leading company in our industry with over 30 employees, supplying to 49 countries worldwide. 40 years is a great achievement. It provides the opportunity to look back and reflect, but to also look forward to the future. A key element of our success, and one that we pride ourselves on, is our relationships with all stakeholders, appreciating the impact they have on our business. Our company started as an independent British manufacturer and maintains that today. This milestone proves the reliability of our products, even when operating in some of the most extreme environments around the World. To celebrate this achievement, we want to share our history, our present-day and our future with you. This will be done in a series of short stories over the next 12 months on our website. Without our customers none of these stories would have been possible, so thank you for your support and we look forward to another 40 years!

The SGS Baseefa Auditor commended our system with the following comment: “I wish all audits were as straightforward as this. You have a really good none-complicated quality system and you really demonstrate how committed you are to Ex products. You are a very rare company who obviously cares that they manufacture Ex products and this really is something to be proud of.” For further information on the ATEX Quality Assistance Notification from SGS Baseefa, please click here.
